Cisco iPhone vs Apple iPhone
iPhone vs iPhone
As everyone knows by now, Apple recently released its’ much anticipated iPod/phone/PDA convergence device, the iPhone, and while the feature set blew many away, some were amazed for a different reason. The name. Cisco Systems had previously announced a shipping product in December under the same name, a line of WiFi VoIP phones. So we got to thinking, how do these products stack up? Which product deserves to wear the title of TRUE iPhone? Check out the comparison chart below.

Size Comparison

Apple’s is in the purple, and Cisco’s is in the red.

Clearly cisco’s iphone is the winner here…
There seems to b tooo many no’s of ciscos side… or is it lyk it has been framed to make it in apples favor
I think that you are comparing apples to oranges here. I mean the intention of the Cisco phone was never to be a multimedia device like the Apple Iphone, it was designed as a business feature voip phone. Based on all laws allthough we might not want it, or see it this way, Cisco should get the name iPhone, since they registered and copyrighted it first.
Well know wonder Cisco is suing Apple. They’re going to get hardly any money with that poor phone
You have way too much time on your hands.
Get a job.
Which one deserves the name? The iPhone that was released in 1997 of course:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_%28Linksys%29
Apple started the whole iThing with the iMac. The fact that Cisco picked up on it and now fiercely defends its usage against Apple is sort of amusing.
Hehehe
So, the Cisco phone does IP Telephony… so surely deserves the branded i more than the apple phone which is more of an mPhone (multimedia)…. Oh that’s already a bit of PDA software and a UK based mobile outlet… urrr, aPhone?
I think it should be noted that internet calling is not available YET … you can be almost certain that even if Apple doesn’t release skype for it … someone will hack it for skype within months (possibly weeks) after it’s release.
I think another important distinction is pop and push email checking on the Apple iPhone
If I understood what you’re saying, if another company releases a phone better than Apple’s, they can name it iPhone?
Here’s my question:
If Cisco did trademark the name iPhone months ago, Apple would definitely know about it. Especially since a registered trademark can be looked up, they would have to have known about it when trying to trademark it for themselves. So why in the world did Apple go ahead with iPhone? They HAD to have known about the trademark, and HAD to have known they would get sued, so WHY? Why go with it anyway?
My only answer is that they know something that we don’t, and that something will make Cisco lose the suit. I don’t believe Apple would make the mistake of using a trademark that isn’t theirs. It doesn’t seem likely for anyone to do it.
Which product deserves to wear the title of TRUE iPhone?
So you’re saying, lets throw out all trademark laws because its apple, and they have a better product?
Does the Mac fanboy drivel get any more ignorant. Apparently trademarks are irrelevant if a company can make something with more features. Stop jerking off to the iphone photos before you hurt your tiny penis.
How about the LG KE850, perhaps that really deserves the title iPhone?
Oh and as the company Cisco bought has been enforcing it’s trademark since the late 1990’s, has Apple really got that much to complain about?
Obviously the Apple phone FTW!
The Cisco iPhone clearly has a very different purpose than the Apple iPhone. It’s not a mobile entertainment center, which is all the Apple phone is. Actually, the Apple iPhone reminds me a lot of the PSP with cellular connectivity. Comparing the two phones is kind of silly.
I can see how consumers will be confused. You mean this $165 piece of plastic isn’t the revolution???
Apple iPhone definitely suck!
Cisco just built that tired-looking thing to draw the foul. Call it profiting through preemptive speculative litigation.
Aren’t you comparing apples to oranges? I don’t believe Cisco’s phone is a mobile phone. Simply a cordless that works over WiFi, right?
This is the most retarded comparison I’ve ever seen.
I think I’ll stick with the iPhone.
Wait…
Well, with it running OSX and run Widgets, I would assume making a skype Widget should not be impossible. Then it would also do VoIP.
Why do such a dumb pointless comparison. These two devices are not in competition with each other and serve two different purposes.

Yeah. Well, I wonder…
I’m gunna’ need you to send me one of each in the mail so I can try them out and give you an honest answer. A-heheheh. HAHAHA.
~ : )
Uhh..you can’t compare a wifi phone to a cellphone. These phones are targeting two different markets. I’d be more likely to get a cisco wifi phone because I already have a cellphone and I’m not ready to fork out $500 for a new one.
The iphone by apple will not be bluetooth capable at launch…
What tosh, the person who owns the brand name deserves to wear the title. If that’s Apple, then awesome, but if not then bad call Mr. Jobs.
Cisco wins because of ‘Internet Calling’ ! .. Nope ?
cisco’s are wankers. Apple wouldn’t have released it if they didn’t have a plan for this already - because a lawsuit was inevitable.
The Cisco PHONE is used for placing call over the INTERNET. Sounds like an INTERNET PHONE (iPhone) to me.
Thats a pretty deceptive phone size comparison. Also, the Apple iPhone seems to have everything but internet calling.. thats pretty lame.
I am sure you had a point, but it’s pretty simple: Cisco owns the name, end of story.

First come first serve. Not about features….
Ciscos phone sucks
I don’t get it. What is this new iPhone?
Will the iPhone have a vibrating alert?
Its funny, all you people should listen to what you’re saying. Telling us that we’re comparing apple’s to oranges, its not true, we’re comparing an entirely new fruit to oranges (which isn’t fair cause oranges are delicious, maybe we should choose a fruit that’s more bland). Cisco didn’t strive to make anything revolutionary like Apple has always done, which is why Cisco’s iPhone seems completely irrelevant. They clearly took the name to bank on Apple’s trend, as such they should have at least tried to make a better phone.
But does it blend?

“Which one deserves the name? The iPhone that was released in 1997 of course:”
I guess so, seing as Linksys is a division of Cisco Systems.
FYI infogear submitted the trademark application for iPhone in 1996, well before iPods, iMacs, etc were even an idea in Steve Jobs head. They were granted the trademark in 2000 and cisco aquired the trademark in 2001.
Apple deserves to get raped in court for such a blatant abuse of someone else’s trademark.

Amen, Scott. Why do people view the law so casually these days?!
Available now? Yes No
If I’m correct, three companies or people other than Cisco (and not Apple) own the rights to the iPhone trademark. Also, Apple has registered the trademark in several other countries.

yeah, the iPhone is a duck of a phone. But, apple did start the whole thing with putting an i in front of their product names, so yeah. Apple’s iPhone shouldn’t really be called a phone. Call it something else like the iPhony, or the iFo, or anything else you little enthusists want. WAKAWAKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
