Multiple virtual desktops are not something new, but the decision by Apple to integrate them at the system level signifies a maturing user base. Bringing background backup to the masses is was an inevitable progression into the operating system as hard drive capacities only continue to grow. While TimeMachine does it the Apple way there are still alternatives!

iChat 3.0
iChat has been around for a while and has been more than overdue for a facelift for quite some time. New features that we will be missing out include ( Tabs, Photobooth Effect, and the most forgotten about feature ScreenSharing!) Not much new here except the whole WebClips integration with safari, which I can say from personal use is definetly something that will be used frequently. From Apple “Create your own website widget using Web Clip in Safari for Leopard. Just visit your favorite site and click the “Open in Dashboard” button in Safari. Dashboard launches a new clip of the site in a customizable widget. From there, you can resize your Web Clip and choose from a handful of window themes.”

There have been plenty of articles speculating the reasons for the Leopard delay, many of which point to “Top Secret” features that Jobs hasn’t told us about yet. I believe the explanation is much simpler - Apple not only has to implement all these new features but for both PPC and Intel still - turns out it was more time consuming than they planned for! My 2 cents!

The fact that this next version of OS X has to be PPC/Intel doesn’t really explain the delays that much. You’re still writing the same code in the same programming language. Apple does have to do debugging on both platforms, but that’s not a significant increase. Having seen the buggy developer builds, I am led to believe there were simply a lot of things that were overhauled under the hood, and that’s what’s keeping it behind.

Why the hell would Parallels be included into the list? Leopard isn’t adding anything that’s related to Parallels….
Since the lame voice in WarGames in the 80s, I was expecting the new text to speech to sound really modern and natural, especially in 2007! It sounds pretty darn electronic and rough to me, anyone else agree?

The alternatives listed here for Time Machine are no way comparable to Time Machine. These are traditional backup time based while time machine (according to what I read) is version based (similar to SVN/CVS), which holds every modification U make.
Your links to Chax and iCar are bad.
As a developer, the features I look forward to most in Leopared are Objective-C 2.0, Image Kit, and Core Animation - all three have no real alternatives yet.
If these were the only features that leopard was featuring, I doubt it would be delayed. This list is missing some new feature that Apple has not yet revealed.
