A week of updates!
This has been a eventful past week in the world of Apple. There have been some exciting hardware and software releases:
To start, the MacBook Pro’s got a bump in power and energy efficiency. The processors were upgraded to the new Santa Rosa line by Intel, the LCD display now sports an LED backlight, and the graphics card got a huge bump to the nVidia GeForce 8600 GT. According to Apple, these upgrades are roughly 50% faster than the original configuration of the MacBook Pro when they were released last year.

As far as software goes, Parallels has announced that Parallels Desktop 3.0 will support DirectX OpenGL natively! This means running 3D Windows’ games in a virtualized environment in Mac OS. I, personally, cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of this to test and try out. CounterStrike, here I come!
In addition, OpenOffice now supports Aqua — it no longer requires X11 to run in the Mac OS. The new release supports both the PPC and Intel architectures. So, if you’re tired of running MS Office over Rosetta on your Intel-based Mac, here’s a quick and free solution!
User reviews and first impressions will follow soon! Stay tuned!
